Good Monday TRC and Friends. I hope you are having a great start to a great week!
In this episode of TID, me and Kayla Saner dive into a question from a listener about the role of medicine in regard to mental health.
Since 1991 there has been a 3,000% increase in the use of SSRI medication and an increase of 35% in suicides in the United States. A majority of Americans are now on prescribed SSRI medication for depression and anxiety.
We won’t dive into the deep end on these numbers, but we do talk about the proper place of medication. Kayl and I both have recently weened off of SSRI medication and can speak to this issue with some theological clarity and experience.
We hope you find our conversation helpful and encouraging if you are fighting through some mental and emotional challenges. There is a win to be had, and it will be a tough battle, but you can do it by God’s grace.
I’d highly recommend “Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess” by Dr. Caroline Leaf. Dr. Leaf and good counseling have helped me to address my root issue of controlling my own mind, and this has had a profound effect on my physical body. I’d commend learning this to you, and remind you that if you are a follower of Jesus through repentance and faith, you have the precious power of self-control that has been gifted to you by the Holy Spirit. Tap into that awesome and powerful gift. Dr. Leaf will help you do this although she’s not teaching a Bible study. She is teaching from her many years of experience as a clinical and research doctor. She happens to be a Christian, and that’s cool, yet she just observed how the wise Creator Jesus wired the human to work and passes on some awesome help in managing our minds.
