Fight This Fight Today

Communication to and prayer for my sons this morning: Love you my young men. Push for holiness today in all your choices…what you look at, what you laugh at, friends you choose, etc. Seeking the kingdom of Jesus is hard for now, so push back against the hard by fighting for holiness.

There is absolutely nothing good that comes from sin. I’m not saying that God doesn’t take sin and sinful actions and turn them for good. He does. He so does. What I’m saying is that sin itself only produces death.

Sin is deceitful. Sin over promises and under delivers. Every. Single. Time.

As my boys drove off to school and as they entered first period and I kicked off my day, that above prayer was rolling in my soul. I brought it to Jesus, and then sent my love and content of my prayer for them to them via text.

Sin wants to spoil my sons. Sin wants to spoil their future. Sin wants to spoil their present. Sin wants to spoil our peace and joy. Sin wants kill.

As a dad and husband, I’m always on the look out for what kills our collective souls as well as external physical danger, and I’m more convinced than ever that the unseen curse of sin is more deadly and more present than the couple of potential intruders I’ve physically stopped with preparedness, surprise, speed and violence of action. And I’ve had to do that. But the spiritual attacks have been relentless since birth.

The volume of spiritual danger has outnumbered actual physical danger hundreds of thousands to 1.

But where am I tempted to spend a majority of time? Conceal / carry better. Stand guard better. Be more and more physically fit to win if a struggle happens. Why? I can see and perceive and put my hands on the physical. My context fights against me actually being more aware of the unseen Enemy.

Personally, its a real challenge to put the right about of emphasis on the most important thing for my family.

7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; 8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. – 1 Timothy 4:7-8

Training in godliness has more value. I have to know that. I have to believe that. I have to do that. I have to ask Jesus to help us do that better. I have to ask him to help my wife and sons to do that better.

I hope you find this little reminder helpful today, and trust the Lord to cause you to bring it to him, and to push for that in your homes daily.

Go and fight that fight today.

Out.
