TRC and Friends, here is some Twitter fodder I placed out there this morning to help do some educating on how to listen to and read news.
Read my tweets, then read the article from The Atlantic.
Bottom line is we can’t allow ourselves to be fooled or manipulated by any news source. Conservative or Liberal. You have to search for facts not agendas or entertainment.
Be a discerning people not a manipulated people.
My tweets:
If you wonder why why there is distrust with news and information, observe the events in DC last weekend regarding the Catholic School boys. Is it likely media outlets are controlling the narrative to push agendas rather than simply report facts? You think?
Note various media outlet’s portrayals. Now read this article from the @TheAtlantic Don’t normally lean their way politically, but they report well. This article is what journalism is supposed to be. You did this right @TheAtlantic
The Article you should read:
The Atlantic: The Media Must Learn…
For too long “we”, that is evangelical conservatives have been led by bit and bridle by the The GOP and conservative news outlets that pander to our worldview because they know we’ll keep buying what they are selling.
Don’t think for one minute that they are not profiting from our consumption.
(SIDE NOTE: IF THE GOP WAS SERIOUS ABOUT OUR WORLDVIEW THEY WOULD HAVE NOT ALLOWD WHAT HAPPENED IN NY REGARDING ABORTION TO HAPPEN BECAUSE WE’D HAVE DIFFERENT LEGISLATION IN PLACE FEDERALLY…THAT THEY HAVE BEEN RUNNING ON FOREVER IT SEEMS. THEY’VE HAD MAJORITY TO DO SOMETHING AND HAVE DONE NOTHING THEY PROMISED. WHAT HAPPENED IN NY REGARDING ABORTION I PARTIALLY LAY AT THEIR FEET FOR THEIR INACTION. WE PUT THEM IN OFFICE TO STOP IT AND THEY HAVE LET IT HAPPEN. DERELICTION OF DUTY. RANT OVER.)
I’m not advocating that we go liberal. Heck no.
Frankly I hate both of those labels. Neither does justice to the other, and neither truly captures what a Christian is supposed to be.
I am a Christian. I am a follower of Jesus Christ. God’s word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testament, are my Manual. They are true without affirming anything contrary to fact. Obedience to Jesus Christ through obedience to his word does not fit neatly within any political ideology currently in play. Let’s not pretend our worldview fits or will be allowed to fit. It doesn’t and it won’t. When the kingdom is fully established, then a biblical worldview will be the norm. We have a long journey still in front of us.
How about we be discerning. This will require us to read, ask hard questions, compare truth claims of others to the Manual, and come to conclusions we won’t have to be ashamed of when we give account to Jesus.
Let’s not be dolts who assume too much.
Let’s not jump on social media and put our ignorance on display. Let’s also not put on display we have a bit in our mouths controlled by an inferior and idolatrous source.
Let’s be the most well read, best informed, most loving, most prophetic people on the planet.
I hope this article from the Atlantic will be helpful to get you and I to see that the information we get fed is often agenda driven not truth driven.
Go search for truth. Start with God’s word, and let it filter out all the trash.
