Most every January we start our new year as a church by revisiting our vision, mission, strategies, tactics and the DNA that drives all of that.
Our DNA, or values you may say, are KDSC. Kingdom. Disciple. Society. Church.
This DNA is vital and gives rise to what our vision of discipling the nations looks like in Rome, GA.
I would make a video, but I’ve got a nasty cold, and I sound like Sponge Bob Square Pants, so I’ll refrain from video making today. However, I do want you to not miss this Sunday. Why? Because this Sunday we revisit “S”. Society. Society is the piece of the DNA that helps us redeem our vocations.
You see, God did not make a mistake when he wired us all the way he did. In fact, he wired us all like he did on purpose. Psalm 139 reminds me that God does not make junk or less than gifting. God created a diverse biological and societal ecosystem, the fall and curse of sin broke it all, and Jesus’ good news of the kingdom is repairing it all, and bringing it all back under Jesus’ rightful rule…including repentant sinners who will follow Jesus and believe. The scope of Jesus mission is the whole world…every nation.
But how?
That’s a lot of people and land and everything.
Here is how: Every Christian, everywhere, all the time.
The mandate of Genesis 1:26-28 is still in play. God sends his people into the earth to fill it and subdue it and heal it and preach the good news of repentance and faith in Jesus. Jesus told us all to go do it in Matthew 28:16-20.
We believe it will take every Christian engaging every vocation to have access to the whole world to complete Jesus’ mission. So, your job is a strategic and vital component of an eternal vision God has for the world.
I don’t know about you, but that gives me some “umph” to get to work for something bigger and cooler than just a paycheck. Our jobs collectively redeemed for God’s “glocal” glory.
So, if you want to hear more, I’ll see you Sunday morning at Three Rivers Church.
