Joshua 24:1-28

2. The Great Commission: God’s Great End

Matthew 28:16-20 (ESV) Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go (passive) therefore and make disciplesof all nations, baptizing (active) them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching (active) them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

3. The Church: God’s Means to his Great End

3a. The church is not a business that sells spiritual wares to consumers of spiritual wares.

3b. The church is the fellowship of the kingdom that exists as the special object of God’s affection and advance Jesus’ kingdom to all nations by obeying Matthew 28:16-20.

4. TRC’s Vision

For the glory of God, we will disciple the nations…

5. TRC’s Mission

…by being and producing radical followers of Jesus.

5a. Radical followers of Jesus are John 15 people who abide in Christ and receive the fruit of God’s glory globally.

6. Radical Life

6a. UP: Love God

We grow out of and remain in Christ. We have been reconciled to God in Christ and remain in him.

6b. IN: Love each other

Those in Christ are then brought into fellowship with each other.

6c. OUT: Love the world

Those in fellowship with each other impact the nations and the kingdom of darkness.

Application

1. The Great Commission is given by Jesus to his church. The church is the context of the New Testament.

1a. GC not given to the individual.

1b. GC not given to the para-church/sending organization.

1c. What if the church was the missionary?

2. The church of Jesus must stop hocking spiritual wares and begin discipling people for the GC.

2a. Leadership has to stay on point.

2b. Leadership, if not on point, must get on point and let the implications begin to line up.

3. Strive to discover the convergence of your vocation with a local and global application.

3a. This is likely super difficult for a generation that was sold “college” at all costs rather than discovery of created purpose, training, and application.

3b. This convergence will likely be seen in the generations who have come with KDSC as their default training.

4. Strive in worship, RL groups, and engagement to be a happy people that loves well.

4a. An important partner in kingdom advancement is the companion of love that tells hat we belong to Jesus.

4b. Joy/happiness is a gift of the kingdom. John 17:13 (ESV) But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
