Self-centeredness is rampant among humans infected with the curse of sin…so that’s a global problem.
We see it in our children. We see it at work. We see it at school. We see it at church. We see it in family dynamics.
Watching my boys go after fixing their dinner plates, snacks, anything…reveals a “me first” dogma. When the boys were little we used to say, “me first is me last”…we still have to say that. Oh God, rescue!

Submitting to the other in the church, in particular, is a biblical command, and this command is rooted in the nature of Trinity. Son submits to Father, Spirit submits to Son…God himself cares for the other. Others mattering is a God-like trait that all image bearers can reflect even in a state of not being a Christian precisely because they are image bearers. How much more those who the Holy Spirit dwells in by faith in Jesus?
