The Innkeeper by John Piper

This is my favorite Advent poem. I’m not a poetry guy, but this guy’s writing of poetry connects with my soul. This poem right here is hard for me to read without getting into my feelings. It makes me cry. I admit it. I think its because “The Innkeeper” helps me to see my sin by helping to to see the king so rightly portrayed.

Something about this poem does what Lewis speaks about regarding drama in that the poem steals past imposed perceptions of Jesus that are not accurate and helps me to see him as the good, kind…kind enough to go see the one who paid such a high price to house him, holy, mighty and gentle warrior King who would actually take note of me and love me as I am and work to make me as I should be.

Enjoy!
